2010 Fantasy Baseball Predictions
Published by Keith Giordano in: Author-Keith Draft Prep Fantasy Baseball Theory Player Analysis
It is time for me to look into my crystal ball and tell you all the fantasy baseball things you are dying to know. Let’s do it again. Feel free to add your names for these categories or make up new ones in the comments section at the end of the article. I look into my crystal ball, and this is what I see…
A.L. ROY – Michael Brantley – Will win the job, hit for average, steal bases.
N.L. ROY – Jason Heyward – Should be starting from the beginning of the season.
A.L. Cy Young – Zach Greinke (second place – Felix Hernandez) That’s right, folks. He is for real.
N.L. Cy Young – Tim Lincecum (second place – Dan Haren) Haren finally puts it together in the second half, but The Freak is just too good.
A.L. Fantasy MVP – Ian Kinsler – I am a believer that he can get that batting average.
N.L. Fantasy MVP – Albert Pujols – How can anyone deny this?
A.L. Hitter Breakout – Adam Jones – If he can keep that left foot healthy, he should thrive.
N.L. Hitter Breakout – Jay Bruce – Gotta figure out the lefties, but 3rd time is the charm.
A.L. Pitcher Breakout - Matt Garza – K rate spiked in 2009, wins should follow.
N.L. Pitcher Breakout – Clayton Kershaw – So young, and ready to join the elite.
A.L. Hitter Most Overpaid for – Aaron Hill – Don’t you believe that 30 HRs are assured.
N.L. Hitter Most Overpaid for – Mark Reynolds – Too much room for doubt. Only sure thing is a bad BA.
A.L. Pitcher Most Overpaid for – Javier Vazquez – A.L., ballpark working against ratios.
N.L. Pitcher Most Overpaid for – Ubaldo Jimenez – Too wild.
A.L. Shakiest Closer (with job now) – Brian Fuentes – Most saves in 2009, terrible WHIP, Angels signed Rodney.
N.L. Shakiest Closer (with job now) – Brandon Lyon – What were the Astros thinking?
A.L. Bargain Closer – Rafael Soriano – Health is the only risk here.
N.L. Best Bargain Closer – Billy Wagner – Wasn’t really in any decline before injury.
A.L. Best Save Vulture – Fernando Rodney – Only a matter of time…
N.L. Best Save Vulture – Jason Motte – Franklin’s numbers way beyond career averages. Motte spits fire.
A.L. Comeback Player – Adrian Beltre – Change to a good team in a better park while healthy should make him a bargain.
N.L. Comeback Player – Brandon Webb – Best sinker in the game.
A.L. Sleeper to Watch – Clay Buchholz – 4 pitches and now a bit of seasoning. Sounds a lot like Greinke.
N.L. Sleeper to Watch – Kyle Blanks – Big man, big power, showed up in shape.
A.L. Take a Flyer on – Brandon Wood – This could finally be the time..
N.L. Take a Flyer on – Eric Young Jr. – Speed to burn, gotta find a place to play.

Great Work here. I got King Felix for A.L. Cy Young b/c although Greinke is for real and will have another great season I think it will come down to win totals and Felix will have 4 or 5 more(I believe he could have 20-22 this season) CRAZY I KNOW…and this is also the reason I think Halladay will win the Cy Young in the N.L. Timmy is unreal and will lead all of baseball in K’s and ERA, but Halladay will have his typical solid #’s(probably as good as he has had in the last 5 years) and I seriously think he could win 22 up to 25 this year which will be hard to deny another Cy for him. Timmy will have 16 or 17 W’s.
Last thing would be that even though I agree that B. Webb will have a solid comeback season…my call for comeback FANTASY player of the year this season is going to be Corey Hart. Its not going to be a true injury comeback issue for him but I believe he will have HUGE fantasy comeback status. To end my crazy predictions number wise I say the Hartthrob puts up .285 95/28/105 and 18 steals to boot. This is going to be unbelievable production from a guy just about everyone has forgotten.
You have good points about the King and Doc’s win totals. But I don’t think that KC is much worse than Seattle. Also, I am not sure that Doc will have ratios that are quite as good in that ballpark.
Interesting note on Corey Hart: while his batting average has dropped two straight seasons, 2009 was his best BB/K ratio since his 57 AB stint in 2005. He did, however, have the lowest contact rate of his career.
180 INN Chris Carpenter – UNDER (113)
No chance Kinsler wins MVP. Has health issues and hit .239 after April last year.
Great job on the predictions. I love articles like this. Watch out for Lester in the AL Cy Young category. His splits really shot up last year and he has a MUCH IMPROVED defense behind him in Boston. The offense took a step back but it’s the Red Sox and they are good for 90 plus wins. Additionally, Beckett and Lackey will match up against some of the opponents 1’s and 2’s leaving Lester to possibly grab some cheap wins early on.
Also what about Lastings Milledge in Pittsburgh. He’s had some trouble in the past and can be a head case but it appears he is penciled in as the starting LF’er in Pittsburgh, which BTW is forming a nice youth movement. He worked out all offseason and reported early with McCutchen so it seems like his priority is to take the next step forward? Any thoughts?
Hey Wes, I love Lester and think that he has a good chance to join the elite group. As far as Lastings Milledge, he was penciled in as a starter last year as well, so I drafted him. Needless to say, that didn’t work out very well. He has some issues with plate discipline. The Pirates always have a lot of OF type players to shuffle around, so his job security can’t be very high. That said, you are correct that he should get a chance to start and he has that power/speed combo. Just keep the price you pay low, and be ready to eject him if he struggles early.
